Researchers say simple sitting and enjoying the peace found in nature has mental and physical benefits.
'A two hour 'dose' of nature a week significantly boosts health and well-being. Research suggest, even if you simple sit and enjoy the peace. '
In my own practice I create woodland programs that run out of local forests, that are a minimum of 2 hours each. Ideally you don't want to be in the woodland for less that 2 hours per session, so that participants can get a real sense of the natural environment and time to experience the sights, smells and sounds that present themselves, while also taking part in inspiring activities. It is important to find areas off the beaten track and emerge yourself in them, games such as hide n seek and scavenger hunts are great for exploring different areas but still giving participants some purpose and time on their own. They may find themselves hiding behind a great old oak tree for sometime, these moments can have significance, silence, waiting, breathing, watching, observing the world around them. Moments of inspiration and connecting to the environment can rise. These activating feelings can be carried with them for rest off the day or week! Even the simple feeling of fun and adventure can also be taken away from an engaging session.
